Ontario-registered Dealer Decal Program
Ontario-registered Dealers: Who They Are and How to Find Them!
Licensed, Trained & Regulated Professionals
All dealers in Ontario are licensed and abide by OMVIC's strict Code of Ethics. Dealers must also complete a course in automotive law and ethics from Georgian College. Dealers contribute to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund, a consumer protection fund.
Look for the Ontario-Registered Dealer Decal
The official Ontario-registered dealer decal, posted on dealership doors and windows, identifies a dealer as an Ontario-registered dealer who is licensed and regulated by OMVIC.
Greater Consumer Protection Through Legislation
When you buy from an Ontario-registered dealer, you have vehicle-buying rights and consumer protections available to you. If you have a serious issue with a vehicle purchase that violates these protections, you may be able to return your vehicle, cancel a contract or receive financial compensation. These consumer protections do not apply to private sales.
The Only Way to Protect Yourself: Buy from an Ontario-Registered Dealer!
If you buy from someone who is not an
Ontario-registered dealer, you are:
- Not protected by consumer protection legislation
- Ineligible for financial compensation
- At risk of becoming the victim of a curbsider
